Ridley & Williams Plays Join New Jermyn Season

The Two-Character Play, a rarely performed Tennessee Williams classic and a double bill by Philip Ridley, will join NF Simpson’s If So, Then Yes at the Jermyn Street Theatre this autumn.

Following the National Theatre’s production of Spring Storm and the current vogue for staging rediscovered Tennessee Williams plays, The Two-Character Play will receive a rare revival.

Williams’ longest play, it was finished in 1973 having taken him ten years to write. Deserted by their troupe whilst on tour, a brother and sister decide to perform a play within a play. Described by Williams as “my most beautiful play since Streetcar“, it runs from 19 October to 20 November 2010.

It’s followed by a double bill of Philip Ridley revivals, Karamazoo and Fairytaleheart. Following in the footsteps of his controversial play Moonfleece, Karamazoo and Fairytaleheart are also concerned with the art and beauty of storytelling. Directed by David Mercatali, they play from 22 November to 22 December.

The premiere of If So, Then Yes, the first play to be
written by Simpson in over 30 years, runs to 2 October, directed by Simon Usher.
