Five Reasons to See … As You Like It at the Actors’ Church

An open-air promenade production of As You Like It
by Iris Theatre opens at St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden (aka The Actors Church) next week.
Here, the company give us five reasons why we should go and see it…

1. The Setting

The gardens of the Actor’s Church are one of central London’s hidden
gems. The play promenades through the 17th century grounds and around
the building of this famous Inigo Jones landmark. The surroundings are
magical, especially as it gets dark during evening performances.

2. A Stunt Dog

As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s best-loved
comedies, with an array of classic comic characters and arguably his
most compelling comic heroine in Rosalind. We also have a dog playing a
goat.

3. A Summer Evening Walk

Follow us around the grounds of the Church, with actors leading the way
from the impeccable style of the Victorian court to the freedom of the
forest of Arden. Our promenade approach brings you right into the play,
and adds to the feeling of freshness and fun.

4. The best young stars and experienced talent

We’ve mixed the hottest new talent on the London stage with the insight
of great experience (we recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of
John Harwood (Adam / Corin) on the London stage). The energy that the
cast bring to Shakespeare’s language is a rare thing to behold.

5. We’re weatherproof

Whether basking in sunshine or soaking in rain, the play must go on!
There were some nights last year when our actors were almost washed
away, but we ploughed on regardless, which just adds to the fun – so if
it looks like rain, bring an umbrella or grab a spot under our covered
marquee, and we’ll provide ponchos and a great night out (plus hot
drinks inside during the interval!).
