Nottingham Playhouse revives Posh in run up to 2015 election

The production forms part of the venue’s Power and Politics season

Nottingham Playhouse will present the regional premiere of Laura Wade's 2010 play Posh next year, as part of its newly announced 'Power and Politics' season.

The production, which will be directed by Susannah Tresilian, runs from 13 February to 28 February 2015 co-produced with Salisbury Playhouse.

"When Posh hit the stage at the Royal Court pre-the 2010 General Election, it sent shockwaves through London," said Tresilian. "We're five years on now from its first production, and Britain looks a different place. I am thrilled to be directing this play at this time, pre-Election once more."

Posh – which was recently adapted for the big screen under the title The Riot Club – headlines the theatre's spring 2015 season alongside two new commissions, Mufaro Makubika's How to Breathe and Tony’s Last Tape by Andy Barrett, about the late politician Tony Benn.

In March, Nottingham Playhouse will continue its ten-year relationship with Shared Experience when it presents Mermaid, conceived, created and directed by Polly Teale as a bold re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale.

Teale said: "We are thrilled to be making this epic coming of age story with Nottingham where we will bring on board a chorus of young women to create the mermaid's magical singing. After years of successful collaborations with the Playhouse it is especially exciting to be able to involve young people in the city with this unique project."

Rounding off the season is the previously announced revival of Jonathan Harvey's Beautiful Thing (21 April-9 May), a co-production with Leicester Curve and Tom O'Connell for QNQ Productions.

Nottingham Playhouse artistic director Giles Croft said: "Nottingham Playhouse has always been a crucible for emerging artists and new work, I am very pleased that the forthcoming season is no exception to this."
