Hugh Maynard and Sophie-Louise Dann to star in Sweeney Todd

The Stephen Sondheim musical will open in Derby before moving to Colchester

Full casting has been announced for Sweeney Todd, which will open at Derby Theatre in September.

Hugh Maynard (Jesus Christ Superstar) will play the titular role alongside Sophie-Louise Dann (Made in Dagenham) who will play Mrs Lovett.

Directed by Daniel Buckroyd, the production will open in Derby on 30 September before transferring to Mercury Theatre, Colchester on 26 October.

Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s musical is about a barber, Todd, who murders his clients and supplies the meat to Mrs Lovett's pie shop.

The cast also includes Christina Bennington (Oklahoma), David Durham (As You Like It), Jack Wilcox (Travels With My Aunt), Julian Hoult (The Jew of Malta), Simon Shorten (War of the Worlds), Kara Lane (The Sound of Music), Daniel Buckley (Loserville), and Ryan Heenan (The Burnt Part Boys).

Sweeney Todd opens at the Derby Theatre Derby on 30 September before transferring to Mercury Theatre, Colchester on 26 October.
