Introduction

Hello all,

Forgive us, but all we can think about in the Whatsonstage.com offices this week is awards, awards, awards - and RSVPs. This Friday sees the launch party for our eighth annual Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards, the only major theatre prize-giving to be decided by the public. And the event, held in aid of our adopted charity Mousetrap Theatre Projects, is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.

As we're announcing your nominations to the invited audience of Theatreland's great and good at Cafe de Paris in the West End, we'll also simultaneously be publishing the shortlists and launching voting for the eventual winners on our awards microsite. So do stay tuned on Friday for the very latest - and also check back on Monday for Whatsonstage.com TV coverage and Photo galleries from the star-studded event!

Of course, it's business as usual elsewhere on the main site, where names making the News this week include Richard Coyle, Timothy West, Tara Fitzgerald, Charlie Cox, Harold Pinter, Jamie Lloyd, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ewan McGregor, Kelly Reilly, Michael Grandage, Ian McKellen, Trevor Nunn, Charles Dance, Janie Dee, Patrick Stewart, Anne-Marie Duff, Douglas Hodge, Philip Quast and Blondie musical Desperately Seeking Susan, which has posted early closing notices for just one month after its premiere. And our condolences to the family, friends and former colleagues of actor Anton Rodgers, who has passed away at the age of 74.

Elsewhere on the site, Doubt's Dearbhla Molloy answers our 20 Questions; we've got Photos from last week's Evening Standard Awards; Matt Wolf gets to grips with the movie star appeal of Shakespeare in our Special Feature; Michael Coveney hopes pantomime never gets too "cool" in his personal blog; and theatregoers are swapping tales on the Discussion Forum. Finally, if you're short on time and can't trawl through our myriad news stories, do check out our WOS Radio feature, the "Weekly Briefing".

For more on everything above plus all the other latest news, reviews, blogs, features, gossip, interviews, openings, closings, surveys, competitions and ticket offers, scroll down or log on now to Whatsonstage.com.

Many thanks for your continued interest in all things theatrical.

Sincerely,
Terri Paddock
Editorial Director

Features - All-star Shakespeare

These days Shakespeare is so cool, he’s hot, particularly with a young generation of movie actors. As Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kelly Reilly and Ewan McGregor take a bite at the Bard at the Donmar, Matt Wolf explores the allure of the man from Stratford-upon-Avon in our Special Feature. Meanwhile, actress Dearbhla Molloy – who has followed her West End stint as Orlando Bloom’s mother with a role as a strict nun in the UK premiere of award-winning Broadway hit Doubt – answers our 20 Questions.
