Woody Sez embarks on UK tour

Date: 3 January 2013

Woody Sez, the show celebrating folk music legend Woody Guthrie, is embarking on a UK tour later this month.

The show, which weaves together Guthrie's songs with excerpts from articles he wrote for leftist newspaper The People's World, was created by Broadway veteran David Lutken, who also stars.

It was first seen at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2007, returning two years later and transferring to the Arts Theatre in 2011.

Considered the godfather of American folk music, Guthrie's best-known songs include "This Land is Your Land" and "Bound for Glory", and he provided inspiration for the likes of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison.

Woody Sez, which is produced by UK Arts International, will visit the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon (30 January–2 February 2013), Buxton Opera House (4 February), Sheffield Crucible (5-6 February), The Lowry, Salford (7-9 February), Harrogate Theatre (11-13 February) and Theatre Royal, Wakefield (14-16 February).
