Garsington Opera Stages Rare Rossini in 2010

Following on from the announcement of Grange Park’s 2010 season, Garsington Opera have announced their programme for next Summer.

It will be the last season at Garsington Manor, the company’s home near Oxford, before they move to a new location (no details available as yet).

There are three operas to be mounted in June and early July: Mozart’s perennial favourite Le nozze di Figaro, the first-ever British production of Rossini’s Armida and Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Figaro will feature some of our brightest young artists, including Sophie Bevan, Anna Grevelius, Kishani Jayasinghe and Grant Doyle. It will be directed by John Cox and conducted by Douglas Boyd.

The Rossini rarity will be directed by Marrtin Duncan, who had such a hit recently at Covent Garden, with the resurrected Thomas Arne opera Artaxerxes. If he does half as good a job, it’ll be well worth seeing.

Two of the stars of that production appear in the Britten – Rebecca Bottone and Andrew Staples – and they will be joined by the exciting young talent of Katherine Manley and Anna Stéphany. Stuart Bedford conducts and Daniel Slater will direct.
