Hvorostovsky Replaces Villazón at ROH ConcertDate: 15 May 2009Following the recent announcement that Rolando Villazón is withdrawing from public performance for the remainder of the year, the Royal Opera House has confirmed that his place will be taken by Dmitri Hvorostovsky for the 24 June recital. It marks the first solo recital by the Russian bass baritone at the ROH and the programme will include arias by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov in the first half and Italian arias and Neapolitan songs in the second. Dmitri Hvorostovsky first came to international attention twenty years ago when he won the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 1989. He made his debut at Covent Garden in 1992 as Riccardo in I puritani and his other roles with the Company include Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Francesco (I masnadieri), Silvio (Pagliacci), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), the title roles in Rigoletto and Eugene Onegin and Count di Luna (Il trovatore) which he most recently sang at the Royal Opera House in April/May.
