Frida Kahlo In Kennington
An award-winning play about the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo gets its London premiere later this month at Kennington’s Oval House Theatre (20 October to 7 November). Drawing on letters, diaries and interviews with the artist and her friends, Frida Kahlo Viva La Vida! recreates the intimate life of one of 20th century art’s most passionate players. Rising star Gaël Le Cornec brushes up her eyebrows to play Kahlo in this co-production between Footprint Project and Tirso Theatre Company.

Somewhere Over The Stag
Frank Loman, currently starring in Bathhouse the Musical at Above the Stag, has announced dates at the same venue for his autobiographical cabaret, Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Drawing on songs from the likes of Stephen Sondheim and John Bucchino, the show charts Loman’s journey from theatre-obsessed nine-year-old in suburban Germany to prolific performer on the London fringe. Catch him in action on 11 October, 8 and 22 November, or 6 and 20 December.

Prestwich/Quayle Reunion at Red Lion
Young playwright Becky Prestwich, acclaimed for her first play Streetlights and Shadows, is now back with a second, Letting in Air, premiering at the Old Red Lion from 10-28 November. Prestwich will be reunited with director Adam Quayle (Old Vic New Voices 24 Hour Plays 2008) for the piece, which explores the beating heart of family life in modern-day Manchester. The Box of Tricks production features an impressive cast, including Edmund Kente and Ryan Hawley.

Catford Broadway Flies High
A new professional production of William Golding’s classic Lord of the Flies opened at Catford’s Broadway Theatre this week, running at the venue until 25 October. Using novelist Nigel Williams’ powerful stage adaptation, the play occupies Broadway’s 80-seater studio space and is directed by Cameron Jack, whose previous Broadway outings have included A Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Something For The Weekend
Arcola Theatre hosts the first of a new season of its Green Sundays this weekend. Held on the first Sunday of every month and billed as “entertainment and inspiration for the ecologically curious”, these family friendly events aim to explore eco-living through practical workshops and performance. Highlights this Sunday include a screening of Tarek El Diwany’s film Why Are We All in Debt? and a set from Muslim spoken word duo, Poetic Pilgrimage. Not to mention refreshments from the delicious Mighty Veg Delights.
