Off-West End Announcements – 12 June 2009

Date: 12 June 2009

Season of Firsts at the Finborough
Summer at the Finborough sees a new play by actor, author and Young Ones star Nigel Planer, as well as the long overdue European premiere of a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Planer’s Death of Long Pig (7 July-1 August) is billed as a dark and exotic comedy, while State Fair follows the loves of an Iowan farm family (4-29 August). George Bernard Shaw’s political extravaganza, Too True to be Good will round off the season in September.

Sprint Still Running in Camden
The 2009 Sprint Festival got off to a flying start at Camden’s People Theatre last weekend and with three weeks to go, there is still much to see. Established in 1997 as a showcase for physical, visual and unusual theatre, this year’s event gives a platform to 11 exciting companies and artists, including little wonder’s Vagabond’s Voyage, a unique theatrical journey along the Regent’s Canal.

Summer Sale at the Soho
Theatregoers, tighten your belts, for Everything Must Go, Soho Theatre’s two week focus on the global financial crisis. As the economy bites, Soho writers are biting back with a series of specially commissioned shorts. See one play each night from 23 June to 4 July, before trying out the theatre's interactive sound walk and a greed-based gambling game, aptly named Ponzi.

Greenwich Goes Against the Tide
The forthcoming Greenwich & Docklands Festival promises many high points, but none higher than Against the Tide, a newly devised piece to be staged in Cutty Sark Gardens from 25-28 June. The second collaboration between Graeae Theatre Company and Melbourne-based street artists, Strange Fruit, the show features members of both companies literally walking on air, using tall, bending poles.
