Royal Exchange New Season includes Pinter, Ibsen & Cannibals

The Royal Exchange new season presents some classics alongside new work. The iconic venue is currently staging Carol Ann Duffy's Rats' Tales - their Christmas production until 12 January.

The new season includes the work of Harper Lee, a world premiere by Rory Mullarkey and a classic from Henrik Ibsen. Opening the season is Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird which is adapted by Christopher Sergel. It is directed by Max Webster and runs from 20 February - 30 March and is sure to be popular with audiences and schools across the north west.

The next production is a new piece of work by Stockport born playwright Rory Mullarkey - Cannibals. Directed by Michael Longhurst who directed the hugely successful Constellations at the Royal Court in 2012. Cannibals runs from 3 - 27 April.

Ibsen is revisited by the Exchange in May when they take on A Doll's House - in a new adaptation by Bryony Lavery. Directed by Greg Hersov - the play stars Royal Exchange regular Cush Jumbo. This piece is very timely, as we follow a family through tough times. A Doll's House runs from 1 May - 1 June.

Next up is is Harold Pinter when the Exchange stage his The Birthday Party. This is the Nobel Prize winner Pinter’s first produced full length play that went on to become one of his best known and most popular. Directed  by Blanche McIntyre (Winner of the Critics Circle Most Promising Newcomer 2011 for the critically acclaimed Foxfinder).

The zany and incredibly popular Told by an Idiot bring their madcap humour back to the Exchange following the success of their festive hit You Can't Take It With You. Too Clever By Half is written by Aleandr Ostrovsky and is this Russian playwright's most well known comedy. It is directed by Paul Hunter and runs from 10 July - 17 August.

The Studio space season includes Three Birds by Janice Okoh and The Red Hourglass written and performed by Alan Bissett.
