Library's norfox bring Gargantua to Capitol, 10 August

Date: 25 July 2012

The norfox Young People’s Theatre Company, the Library Theatre’s resident theatre company for young people aged between 15-18, who gain valuable experience in developing their skills in a professional theatre environment, returns to Manchester Metropolitan University’s Capitol Theatre with Gargantua by Carl Grose, directed by Rosie Stuart and Josh Azouz.

The plot follows Mrs Mungus who is pregnant. But after a two-and-a-half year pregnancy, she gives birth to Hugh Mungus, a monster baby with accelerated growth rate and an insatiable appetite for anything that moves! When dastardly military scientists set their hearts on cloning an army of supersize babies for mischievous ends, Gargantua shakes off his chains and stages a daring escape. Who or what can stop this oversized freak of nature? What will be his fate? And, most importantly, who will change his nappy?

As well as featuring 15 young people from in and around Manchester, Gargantua features a giant baby puppet made out of papier maché by local puppeteer and performance artist Ben Moores, of Just Add Water Theatre Company, whose latest show, Bobby (Nobody Wakes up in Dreamland) is currently touring the north west.

Recent norfox members have been accepted on drama courses at RADA, the Oxford School of Theatre, ALRA, and the Central School of Speech and Drama. Another recent norfox member appeared in The Wind in the Willows, the Library Theatre Company’s hit Christmas 2011 production at The Lowry.

Gargantua is at the Capitol Theatre, Manchester Metropolitan University on 10 - 11 August.
