Octagon's Towers of Babel at 24.7 Theatre Festival

The Bolton Octagon's acclaimed drama The Towers of Babel will be performed as part of Manchester's annual 24:7 Theatre Festival (20-27 July 2012), which is now in its 9th year.

The plot focuses on events around 9/11. Vince visits his son at a radio station in the shadow of the twin towers. The bond between father and son is supremely tested as the clock ticks down to disaster.

Written by Nick Yardley, The Towers of Babel explores on the relationship between a father and son following the September 11 attacks; earlier this year it won the annual Octagon Theatre Prize for Outstanding Drama written by a University of Bolton student. As part of the Prize the winning piece was performed in the Octagon’s Studio Theatre by professional actors, with support and feedback from Octagon Artistic and Associate Directors. The Octagon are now taking it to 24:7 by special invitation of the Festival.

Octagon Artistic Director David Thacker will direct the play, following a close working relationship with Nick Yardley throughout the creative process.

Nick commented: “It has been a fantastic experience working with David Thacker to develop this play and I’m thrilled that it is now going to be performed as part of Manchester’s 24:7 Theatre Festival. It is a thought provoking and entertaining piece that I hope audiences will find to be relevant, moving and ultimately enjoyable.”

The Towers of Babel is part of the 24:7 Theatre Festival (20-27 July 2012) and will be performed on the Elphick Stage, New Century House which is located on Corporation Street in Manchester. Performances will take place daily from  25 –  27 July 2012.
