Northern Soul at RET Studio 26 & 27 JanDate: 23 January 2012 The Royal Exchange Theatre Studio is giving audiences a chance to celebrate all things northern when Exchange Education Community Partnership team up with local community organisations The Booth Centre and The Men’s Room to present Northern Soul later this week.
With performances on Thursday 26 January and Friday 27 January in The Studio at the Royal Exchange, the piece is billed as a Mancunian medley of drama, comedy, theatre, music, singing, performance… and maybe even a spot of dancing. It draws on the beating heart and character of the North, from Wigan to Wythenshawe and from Blackpool to Burnage.
The Royal Exchange Theatre’s Community Programme is a genuine opportunity for community organisations to forge close, developmental links with the Royal Exchange Theatre, in particular its Education department.
The Booth Centre is a day centre that offers advice and activities for homeless people in Manchester. It provides advice, education and training to enable homeless people to find new homes, improve their health, increase their skills and confidence and to successfully resettle in the community. The Men’s Room currently works with young men with experience of homelessness, sex work and the criminal justice system. The young men involved in this project request that you do not makes assumptions about their experience as they come to The Men’s Room for many different reasons.
Northern Soul is performed at the Royal Exchange Studio on 26 January, 7.30pm and 27 January at 2.30pm and 7.30pm and tickets are £7/£4 concessions.
