South Pacific Returns to Palace, 13 March

Date: 6 December 2011

The first Broadway revival of South Pacific is headed back to the Palace Theatre, following success at the Barbican in London and on tour. Winner of seven 2008 Tony Awards and a sell out two year run and a filmed version for PBS on August 18, 2010, the show is continuing to tour venues in the UK including a return visit to Manchester in March.

The original Broadway production was directed by Bartlett Sher and starred Matthew Morrison from Glee, alongside a cast of 40, led by three-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara (The Light in the Piazza) and Tony winner Paulo Szot. Sher also directed The Light in the Piazza and Awake and Sing!

The UK cast currently features Samathana Womack and Paulo Szot, Alex Fearns] and Daniel Koek.

Although well known for its extraordinary score -- the songs include "Some Enchanted Evening", "Younger Than Springtime", "Bali Ha'i", "There Is Nothin' Like A Dame", and "A Wonderful Guy" the show portrays Americans stationed in an alien culture in wartime is as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949.

South Pacific runs at the Palace Theatre, Manchester from 13 - 17 March, 2012.
