Katy Cavanagh to replace Debbie Rush in JB Shorts 6

Date: 25 September 2011

Due to filming commitments in Coronation Street - Debbie Rush (the street's Anna Windass) has had to pull out of JB Shorts' new line-up. Debbie was enticed into the JB Shorts company after reading Weeds - a new fifteen minute play by Corrie writer, Debbie Oates (see news, 21 September). She has been replaced by Katy Cavanagah who plays knicker stitcher Julie Carp in Britain's longest running soap.

Katy is joined by Robert Beck who will be remembered by Corrie fans as the unsavoury henchman, Jimmy Dockerson. Debbie and Robert are part of a JB Shorts 6 cast which features the usual JB mix of familiar faces alongside a some of the most dynamic young talent on the Manchester theatre scene – including Christine Clare, MEN Theatre Awards Nominee and winner of the coveted  2009 Alan Bates Award and Simon Trinder who spent three years at the RSC, winning the Clarence Derwent award in his time there.

James Quinn (Early Doors, Fat Friends) returns in his own comedy Don’t Take This The Wrong Way along with Susan Twist. And in other treat for Corrie fans, Karen Henthorn who played Theresa Bryant from 2007-10 makes her JB Shorts debut in 2011 Sony Gold Award winning writer’s Christopher Reason’s  Short.

Debbie Oates (Corrie, Robin Hood, Primeval, Crusoe) and regular JB scribes, Peter Kerry, James Quinn, Trevor Suthers and Lindzi Williams complete the line-up of writers. Award-winning former Artistic Director of the Bolton Octagon, Mark Babych rejoins the JB directors – straight from directing the Library Theatre’s Autumn Season curtain raiser, All The Way Home.

JB Shorts 6 is at Joshua Brooks, Manchester from 11 - 22 October.
