Behind The Scenes Work Week
Behind The Scenes Work Week

RET Opens Doors to Young People

Date: 8 July 2011

Twenty young people from across the Greater Manchester region are to take part in a week long programme of work experience; working alongside professional members of the Royal Exchange Theatre Company, next week.

Behind The Scenes Work Week is a unique and exciting opportunity for Year 10 and 11 students to spend a week observing, learning and understanding the creative processes of the Royal Exchange Theatre, which happen behind-the-scenes on a daily basis.

From 10.00am – 4.00pm each day, the group will work alongside staff members from the Wardrobe, Marketing, New Writing, Casting, Technical, Sound, Lighting, Front-of-House and Education departments. They will shadow and observe on the theatre’s current shows and events, and conclude the week with a Dragon’s Den style presentation of their own ideas using a virtual production as a guide.

The Royal Exchange Theatre’s Education Department offers people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences the chance to explore every aspect of theatre, to get involved in creative projects, take part in tours, discussions, play readings and talks, and to make the Royal Exchange their own. In all of the work created, they seek to develop partnership links – with schools, practitioners, other agencies and arts organisations across Greater Manchester and beyond – to give participants an insight into how theatre, and particularly the Royal Exchange, works.
