Nabokov Bring Bunny to RET Studio

Award-winning writer Jack Thorne brings his coming-of-age play - Bunny to The Studio at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre from Tuesday 21 June to Saturday 25 June 2011.

Set in the stifling heat one summer’s evening, the play follows 18 year old Katie who is thrust on a white knuckle ride when her boyfriend gets into a fight, resulting in his ‘so called’ mates taking him on a car chase seeking revenge. Amidst the baying for blood and the longing for love, Katie is forced to question her morals and loyalty, ultimately deciding her future.

This new play that looks at the complexities of growing up and the complications of racial diversity in Britain today.

Described as one of Britain’s most outspoken and celebrated contemporary playwrights Jack Thorne has previously collaborated with Nabokov with his powerful political new play 2nd May 1997, which ended its UK Tour at the Royal Exchange in 2009.

Jack’s other theatre credits include Fanny and Faggott (Finborough and West End); Stacey (Arcola and West End); When You Cure Me (The Bush Theatre, where he is currently Pearson writer in residence).  He was selected from over 200 writers to be part of Paines Plough’s inaugural writers’ group Future Perfect. His writing for television includes Skins, Shameless and The Spastic King. His first feature film The Scouting Book For Boys (Celador) premiered at the London Film Festival 2009 where Jack won the Best British Newcomer Award. Bunny has so far won a Fringe First at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival.

Nabokov Artistic Director Joe Murphy directs the play and was also the Lyric Hammersmith and tour Associate Director for the Royal Exchange Theatre co-production of Punk Rock.

The character of Katie will be performed by Rosie Wyatt who returns to the Royal Exchange following her performance as Rose in Mike Bartlett’s Love, Love, Love, performed at the Royal Exchange in 2010.

The creative team is completed by Hannah Clark (designer), Jenny Turner (illustrations) and Ian Galloway (Video Design).
