Steele's Scrooge Spends Christmas at Liverpool and Lowry

Date: 16 November 2011

Tommy Steele is set to bring some Christmas (Bah Humbug!) cheer to the Lowry and Liverpool, when he returns to the title role in Leslie Bricusse’s musical Scrooge.

The show has toured several times with Eastender Shane Ritchie playing the miser, Ebenezer Scrooge but perhaps most famously and frequently by Steele who has also performed the show in the West End.

After a night facing the ghosts of his past, present and frightening future, Scrooge is transformed, his festive spirit restored. The score includes “I Hate Christmas”, “It’s Not My Fault”, “I’ll Begin Again” and “Better Life”.

Scrooge was originally a 1970 film starring Alec Guinness and Albert Finney. The musical by Leslie Bricusse - whose other major musicals include Stop the World - I Want to Get Off, Pickwick and Doctor Dolittle.

Michael Barrymore has also played the role but due to the huge following that Steele garners, this story of Ebenezer looks set to be a family favourite at the Lowry and the Liverpool Empire.

Scrooge runs at the Liverpool Empire from 5 - 10 December and at the Lowry from on 12 December - 7 January.
