ActUpNorth Presents Gossip for Homeless

Date: 3 May 2011

A group of Manchester-based amateur actors and writers have come together to raise money for Manchester’s Booth Centre, by putting on a play at Joshua Brooks (off Princess Street) on 9th and 10th May.

Gossip, features a selection of eight short plays written and performed by up and coming talent, involves 23 actors in total, most of whom are students from ActUpNorth – a company that  hosts acting classes in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds for adults interested in professional acting.

The idea for Gossip comes from ActUpNorth student Kristin O’Mara, who lives in Manchester’s Green Quarter and is the producer of the show. Kristin, 29, decided to put on her own show to showcase her own and fellow students talents. She  said: “I’ve been keen to develop my acting skills over the past year and I also wanted to explore script writing."

All money raised will be given to Manchester’s Booth Centre which offers advice and activities for homeless people in Manchester. The Centre also provides education and training to enable the homeless to successfully resettle back into the community. Kristin chose the Booth Centre as the deserving charity after becoming concerned with the number of people on the streets of the city centre.

Tickets are on sale now for £5.95 and can be bought online at www.knockoutproductions.co.uk.
