Mrs Brown's Success Leads to More Mourning

Date: 18 April 2011

Following the huge success and popularity of the TV comedy series Mrs Brown’s Boys on BBC One, Brendan O’Carroll returns to the stage to present the previously seen Good Mourning Mrs Brown at the Liverpool Empire Theatre this December, followed by a return to Manchester next April, 2012.

Mrs Brown’s Boys made its debut on BBC One in February of this year and proved an automatic ratings winner and a second series is on the way later this year.

Good Mourning Mrs Brown is the brainchild of writer, creator and star of the show Brendan O’Carroll (Mrs Brown in character) who first breathed life into widower Mrs Agnes Brown back in 1990 when Irish radio station RTE commissioned him to write a series of short stories on the character he had created. The series ran for three years with over 500 episodes and thus immortalising Agnes in Irish folklore.

Following this success, Brendan wrote a series of books based on the indomitable widow and her children; The Mammy, The Chisslers, The Granny and The Young Wan, which went on to become best sellers across the USA, China, Japan, Italy, France, Ireland and the UK.

Such was the interest that Hollywood beckoned Mrs Brown and a movie followed in which Hollywood icon Angelica Houston starred in and directed, simply entitled Agnes Brown, which remains a firm Christmas favourite on TV channels around the world.

Good Mourning Mrs Brown is at the Liverpool Empire from 12 - 17 December and at the Manchester Manchester O2 Apollo from 3 - 7 Apil, 2012.
