A White Christmas For Southampton

Date: 16 March 2011

The stage musical based on the classic 1954 movie White Christmas returns to The Mayflower, Southampton in November 2011 for just 20 performances.

Aled Jones will return to the role of Bob Wallace, a character he first played to great acclaim at The Lowry, Salford Quays. Aled is an accomplished singer, actor, radio and TV Presenter (numerous albums, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, BBC Radio 2, Songs of Praise, Cash In The Attic and Escape to The Country).

International dance star of stage and screen Adam Cooper (Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Billy Elliott The Movie as well as On Your Toes and Guys and Dolls in London’s West End and principal dancer at the Royal Ballet) will also return to the role of Phil Davis - the other half of the song and dance duo.

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical was first staged at The Mayflower in 2006 and since then has broken box office records, gaining accolades from critics and winning awards. It played to sold out houses at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway (outselling Wicked) for the holiday season 2008/09.

With an ensemble of over thirty and a dynamic 17 piece orchestra, this dazzling musical is full of tap dancing, laughter and some of the greatest songs ever written, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical promises to be a merry and bright theatrical experience for the whole family. Brimming with classic Irving Berlin hits like ‘Blue Skies’, ‘How Deep Is The Ocean’, ‘Happy Holiday’, ‘Sisters’ and of course the unforgettable title song ‘White Christmas’, it tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn, and finding their perfect mates in the process.

“A delightful musical that is as fresh and rare as newly fallen snow.”

- by Simon Cole

I didn't know there was a stage version of "White Christmas". Why have we not seen it around London? It would be ideal for Regents Park Th.(apart from being set in exactly the wrong time of year!) Maybe we could put a huge heated dome over the open air theatre for a Christmas show! - Michael Howard
