Funding boost for Fuse's Not in my Name

Date: 16 March 2011

Liverpool-based Fuse Theatre has returned this year with Alice Bartlett’s Not in my Name after gaining further funding support from Merseyside Police.

The play, which aims to encourage young people to openly, safely and productively discuss issues around terrorism and extremism, was first run at the Unity Theatre last February.

The second run is touring to secondary schools and community centres throughout Merseyside and is in partnership with Theatre Veritae, Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Service, Lancashire Constabulary and Liverpool City Council.

The play is a direct response to the government’s Prevent Agenda, which from September 2009, asks all schools to explore the topic as part of the citizenship curriculum.

Fuse Theatre said Not in my Name portrays the aftermath, community impact and personal consequences of a fictional terror attack as told from the perspective of a group of young characters. The production concludes with an interactive forum session that rewinds events of the play, and gives audiences an opportunity to discuss grievances and alternative courses of action.

Playwright Bartlett is on directing duties again, while James Lewis, Gurkiran Kaur, Rafi Usmaan Raja, Constance Oak, Daniel Fitzsimons, Jennifer Tan, Adam Page and Kimberley Hart Simpson make up the cast.

Not in my Name is being staged at Valley Community Theatre in Netherley in Liverpool on Monday 28 March at 6:30pm.

Details of the funding was not disclosed.
