Abbey Theatre Stage Terminus at Lowry

Date: 15 March 2011

With an outstanding international reputation, Ireland’s National Theatre presents an English premiére at The Lowry where they perform for the very first time.

The ordinary turns extraordinary in this exhilarating play by Mark O‘Rowe, writer of highly acclaimed play Howie the Rookie (which played at the Library Theatre) and the cult film Intermission. Audiences catapult from the bustling streets to the skies above Dublin, then plummet deep to the bowels of the earth as three people are ripped from their daily lives and thrown into a fantastical world of singing serial killers, avenging angels and love-sick demons.

… we go, see the slo-mo ebb and flow; the mill, the babble, the rabble of wobbling waywards, exiled and aimless, unlike us as, purposeful and double-file, like kids on a dare, we head who the hell knows where? …

Currently Terminus is showing in the U.S, from Boston and Philadelphia to Chicago and Maryland before making its English debut at The Lowry. This visit will be followed by performances in London, Cambridge, Glasgow and Sydney, Australia.

The Abbey Theatre is Ireland’s National Theatre and occupies a unique place in the hearts and minds of Irish people at home and abroad. The Abbey has played a vital and often controversial role in the literary, social and cultural life of Ireland. In its long history it has nurtured and premiered the work of major playwrights such as John Millington Synge, Sean O’Casey, Brian Friel, Tom Murphy, Frank McGuinness, Hugh Leonard and Marina Carr as well as actors Donal McCann, Siobhan McKenna, Stephen Rea, Liam Neeson, Sinead Cusack, Gabriel Byrne and Colm Meaney.

Terminus is supported by the Arts Council and Culture Ireland and runs at the Lowry from 24 - 27 March.
