Mikado at Lighthouse, Marks Society's 63rd Year

Mikado at Lighthouse, Marks Society's 63rd Year

Date: 7 October 2010

Acclaimed Dorset theatre group, the Bournemouth Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society, will be presenting The Mikado at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts later this month.

Now in their 63rd year, the society’s annual productions regularly play to packed house, and have collected many accolades over the years. They have twice been awarded the coveted National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) “Accolades of Excellence”, presented to shows that are the best in their category, for The Yeomen of the Guard and The Pirates of Penzance. They took their 2008 production of The Sorcerer to the International G&S Festival at Buxton in Derbyshire last year and received several awards, including Best Male Performer, best Animated Chorus and came 2nd in the overall festival.

Director, Roberta Morrell has been the inspiration behind 6 past productions, including the 50th anniversary production of The Yeomen of the Guard in the grounds of Corfe Castle, in 1997. Musical direction will again be under the skilful baton of Jean Holt who has been with Bournemouth G&S for 19 years and who won Best Musical Director at the International G&S Festival.

The Mikado plays at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts 20 to 23 October
