Revel Horwood bringsTMA winner Spend & Chess to Lowry
Date: 6 October 2010

Strictly Come Dancing Judge and theatre director Craig Revel Horwood is bringing two popular productions to the Lowry over the next few weeks. His national tour of Chess with Sarah Travis as Orchestrator and Musical Director arrives at the Lowry from 24 - 30 October. Written by Benny Anderson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice, the show features the number one hit, "I Know Him So Well."

He also directs the popular musical Spend Spend Spend from 12 - 16 October at the same venue. The show follows the rags to riches to rags story of Viv Nicholson’s a coal miner’s wife from Castleford, who won £152,319 on the pools in 1961, at that time the biggest sum ever won. Last year Spend, Spend Spend! won Best Musical at the Theatrical Management Association Awards year and Kirsty Hoiles, who plays Young Viv, won for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. The cast also includes Spike Milligan’s daughter Jane Milligan (mother), Greg Barnett (Keith), Jack Beale (Matt/Estate Agent), Rob Cousins (Show MD), Neil Ditt (Brucie/Bank Manager), TJ Holmes (Graham), Graham Kent (George), Karen Mann (Older Viv), Tara Nelson (Sue/Tart), Susannah Van Den Berg (Mrs Watermann/Florrie) and Tom Yeates (Policeman/Tax Inspector).

For The Watermill Theatre Craig Revel Horwood and Sarah Travis have both worked on Martin Guerre, Hot Mikado, Copacabana and Sunset Boulevard, which transferred to the West End. Travis also won a Tony Award for Best Orchestration for Sweeney Todd in New York.

Both shows are currently on sale as part of the Lowry's new season.
