Berlusconi set for extra time in Liverpool

Date: 6 April 2010

The popular play Beating Berlusconi! - a one-show by Liverpool stand-up comedian and actor Paul Duckworth – re-visits Liverpool, before it appears in Warrington and Bolton as part of its four month tour.

The piece is based on a bizarre true story from the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul, when a Liverpool fan managed to somehow get in to the AC Milan VIP suite when Liverpool were 3-0 down.

Helping himself to free bubbly and salmon, and then invited to sit down by a smirking, permatanned Don Corleone type, Mark had no idea he was watching the match next to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. When Liverpool's unlikely winner went in his Italian host turned nasty, and the two squared up before Mark was hauled off by Signor Berlusconi's heavies, who handed him over to Turkish security.

Seeing Mark come out of the Italian VIP area, people assumed he must be a Liverpool VIP who had taken a wrong turning, and took him the Liverpool VIP area where he watched the rest of the match surrounded by his boyhood heroes.

Beating Berlusconi visits The Green Room in Carlisle, on 7 April, the Unity Theatre in Liverpool on 8-10 April, The Pyramid Theatre in Warrington on 16-17 April, and The Octagon Theatre in Bolton on 29 April.
