George Dillon’s Hamlet in Northwest

Actor George Dillon brings his touring production The Man Who Was Hamlet to Liverpool in February and Salford Quays in March.

Written and performed by Dillon, The Man Who Was Hamlet is being directed by Denise Evans with music by Charlotte Glasson.

Dillon investigates the story behind Hamlet and asks himself the question; “did Shakespeare write the dramatic masterpiece, or was it another man?”

Despite 400 years of research, Dillon claims that not a single piece of evidence has been found to directly connect an uneducated un-travelled grain-merchant from Stratford with the authorship of the works attributed to William Shakespeare. He said early last century a disgraced aristocrat was ‘discovered’ to be the true author and that Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, is now regarded as the leading alternative candidate.

This is award-winning Dillon’s eighth solo show. He is known for his close association with Steven Berkoff and for creating a number of compelling one man shows which have toured extensively in the UK and abroad over the last twenty years. He won a Herald ‘Angel’ award in Edinburgh for Graft - Tales of An Actor.

The Man Who Was Hamlet appears at the Unity Theatre on Wednesday 24 February at 8pm. It visits The Lowry in Salford Quays on 25 and 26 March.
