Contact has high Expectations for new drama

Date: 18 September 2009

Manchester's Contact Theatre is a platform for new theatre and next month, they bring you Expectations; a play about two couples – one English, one Swedish – who are preparing for the birth of their children. But when events don’t turn
out the way they planned their lives take different paths until all four are brought together to share their secrets and fears.

The play is pitched as a truthful account of the impact of rare chromosomal disorders and receives its UK premiere at Contact.

Fink On Theatre is a Manchester-based company formed in 1998. Bringing together artists, writers and producers to create thought-provoking theatre Fink On Theatre aims to attract audiences that rarely engage with the arts. Fink On Theatre’s previous productions at Contact include Crying In The Chapel (2000), Fair (2007) and Lilya (2008).

Gothenburg English Speaking Theatre (GEST) was formed in 2005 by Kristina Branden Whitaker and Gary Whitaker with the objective of providing quality contemporary English-language theatre to Sweden. Expectations is Kristina’s first play and draws on their experiences leaving England for Sweden in search of adequate care for their daughter, who has a rare chromosome disorder.

Expectations runs at Contact from 13 - 17 October.
