Phys Ed set for 24:7

Date: 24 June 2009

Simon Carter's Phys Ed, a one man play is currently limbering up for Salford's 24:7 Festival. It tells the story of Neville Trellis - a rugby obsessed PE teacher - who is unlucky enough to be the identical twin brother of the greatest rugby player on the planet. Neville has the chance to claim some glory of his own when his team reach the final of the English School's Rugby Invitation Cup - U-13 category.

There are two things stand in his way: the opposition (who are suspiciously large and hairy for twelve year olds), and his childhood bully, who just happens to be their coach.

The piece stars Nicholas Osmond and it will be his 7th production in Manchester, having previously starred in productions of: Rock 'n' Roll, Audience, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and Vieux Carre at The Library Theatre. He has also starred in touring productions of An Inspector Calls and The Shell Seekers at The Lowry.

Writer, Carter was formerly a stand up comic, and has performed with Jo Brand, Harry Hill, Al Murray, Johnny Vegas and Jimmy Carr, amongst others. He also reached the final of Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny? competition.

Phys Ed runs from 20 - 26 July at New Century.
