Northern Stage's Heard About the World

Northern Stage's Heard About the World

Date: 29 January 2012

Northern Stage will hose a new show by Third Angel and Portuguese theatre company Mala Voadora, What I Heard About The World from 8 to 10 February.

What I Heard About The World is a show about stories, traditions and idiosyncrasies across the world from the inventive and playful Third Angel.

Third Angel and mala voadora as they attempt to describe the world. As they try to hold an accurate picture of the whole world in their heads. A world that seems to get bigger by the day. How on earth can you know all the places you've been, let alone the places you haven't?

Produced in association with the geographers behind the website Worldmapper.org, the show aims “to help us to see foreigners as yourself in another place,” says Alexander Kelly, Co-artistic Director of Third Angel and one of the three performers in the show.

Alexander continues: “The project began as a search for the authentic, but we found more and more stories of the inauthentic, the fake, replicas.”

“The stories connect to paint a sometimes bleak, sometimes hopeful, and darkly humorous view of the world, based on how people have told us they see it, and our own attempts to hold it all in our heads.”

Third Angel has a history of making work based on the collection and exchange of stories. People can catch up with what's gone into What I Heard About The World so far, and contribute stories of their own, via Twitter: #whatiheardabouttheworld, Facebook: What I Heard About The World or follow the research on their website

Tickets are priced at £12 / £9 concessionss and can be purchased from the Northern Stage box office by calling 0191 230 5151 or online.
