Davidson Debuts In Stand Up And Be CountedDate: 3 March 2011
Billed as “A hard hitting look at the world of stand-up comedy” - Jim Davidson, one of the UK’s best-known performers - presents his debut play, Stand Up And Be Counted at The Mayflower, Southampton from 7 – 12 March 2011.
Stand Up And Be Counted promises to be an unflinching, no-holds-barred comedy that follows the explosive chain of events that unfold when the two opposite ends of the comedy spectrum collide in the dingy cramped dressing room of a charity fundraising event. When Eddie Pierce, a dyed in the wool, old-school comedian comes face to face with his nemesis, Earl T Richards, one of the UK’s hottest young stand-up stars, neither of them will leave unscathed.
Add to the mix Eddie’s long suffering Wife and Manager Suzie, comedian Billy Simpson, openly gay and one of TV’s biggest stars, and Ellie Jayne, the latest in a long line of ‘celebrities’ discovered by the conveyor-belt of TV talent shows who is performing live for the first time, and you can be sure that this will be an evening that none of them will forget in a hurry.
Also waiting offstage is Stan, Eddie’s trusted road manager and confidante of 20 years who has chosen tonight to drop a bombshell of his own….
Jim Davidson (Eddie Pierce) is one of Britain’s top stand-up comedians and he is well known to TV viewers as host of BBC TV game shows Generation Game and Big Break. He received an OBE for his services to charity. Co-star Matt Blaize (Earl T. Richards) has been performing professionally for nearly 10 years. As well as regularly performing stand up, Matt is a keen and skilled writer. His first 10 minute short film, Taxi for the Comedian, was selected for inclusion in the 2007 London Film Festival and in the Black Hollywood Film Festival, 2008. He has also been nominated for the Richard Pryor Award.
