Tensions run high at the offices of the Chapman and Howard Advertising as they prepare for their Christmas office party. Last year resulted in a visit from the police and the managing director’s divorce! This year various rules have been put in place to avoid a repeat performance but no one knows how the office team will behave... The limited season continues until 15th January 2011. >OPENING 2 December 2010, Me and My Girl at Sheffield Crucible Theatre. Book and lyrics are by L. Arthur Rose and Douglas Furber with revisions by Stephen Fry. The musical score is courtesy of Noel Gay and includes classic songs including The Sun Has Got His Hat On, Leaning on a Lampost and The Lambeth Walk. It’s England, 1936, and Hareford Hall needs an heir. Enter Bill Snibson – a barrow boy, a heartbreaker, a rogue – the long lost son of the late Earl of Hareford. Staring in this exhilarating show are Daniel Crossley (Mary Poppins, Hello Dolly) as Bill, Miriam Margolyes (Wicked, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet) as the Duchess and Jemima Rooper (All My Sons, Bouquet of Barbed Wire) as Sally. The limited season continues until 29th January 2011. >OPENING 3 December 2010, A new adaptation of Aladdin by Mike Kenny at West Yorkshire Playhouse. The next in the series of ‘Big Stories for Little People’ from Mike Kenny and director Gail McIntyre. Their distinctive style of story telling is the perfect antidote to panto for children aged 4 and above. The new version of the classic adventure story features all the things you’d expect; flying carpets, a baddie and a whole lorry load of magic lamps. But Aladdin is a bit of a worry as the hero. He’s not really that brave, handsome, or even that clever. So what will happen when he meets the princess? The limited season continues until 15th January 2011. >OPENING 9 December 2010, Jack and the Beanstalk by Berwick Kaler at York Theatre Royal. Expect spectacular sets and costumes as well as plenty of panto slapstic and mad-cap mayhem! Berwick Kaler (who is also co-directing the production along with Damian Cruden) gives this well known classic his hilarious anarchistic treatment. The limited season continues until 29th January 2011. >OPENING 9 December 2010, Heidi – A Goat’s Tale at Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. A new adaptation written by Andrew Pollard and directed by Adam Sunderland loosely based on the classic children’s tale. Heidi – A Goats Tale combines physical and visual storytelling, music, song and dance to ignite the young audience’s imaginations. Northern Broadsides, one of the country’s best touring theatre companies, present this entertaining family show. The limited season continues until 24th December 2010.
