Key North-East Openings This November

OPENING 3 November 2010, Beautiful Burnout by Bryony Lavery at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Frantic Assembly and National Theatre of Scotland’s co-production of this highly physical and visceral exploration of the world of boxing, the most controversial sport of our time, features the music of Underworld and is directed and choreographed by Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett. The limited season continues until 13th November.

OPENING 4 November 2010, Oleanna by Purlitzer prize winner David Mamet at York Theatre Royal. Kevin McGown and Claire Louise Cordwell are cast in a thrilling power struggle of status and sexual politics about a university professor accused by his female student. The limited season continues until 27th November.

OPENING 9 November 2010, Teechers by John Godber at Hull Truck. This touring production makes a stop at the theatre from which it originated. John Godber directs his own classic comedy-drama that centres on characters attending and working at a secondary school with a cast including Zoe Lister and Claire Eden. The limited season continues until 20th November.

OPENING 19 November 2010, The Hunt for the Scroobious Pip by Andrew Pollard at Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. This world premier, based on the well loved nonsense writings of Edward Lear offers a delightful performance for everyone over 3. Directed by Adam Sunderland. The limited season continues until 24th December.

OPENING 20 November 2010, A Christmas Carol adapted by Bryony Lavery with music and lyrics by Jason Carr at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. This spectacular musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel is brought to the Playhouse by musical director Nikolai Foster following its critically acclaimed staging at Birmingham Repertory Theatre last year. It promises to see all the family on the edge of their seats as strange apparitions and spooky spectres reveal the true meaning of Christmas. The limited season continues until 15th January.

OPENING 26 November 2010, Dick Whittington at Harrogate Theatre. This truly traditional pantomime about Dick Whittington’s magical adventure to London will no doubt be a festive family favourite with spectacular scenery and jokes. Cast include Howard Chadwick,Lara Denning and Polly Lister.The limited season continues until 15th January.
