Brian May Lights Up We Will Rock You at Empire

Date: 12 June 2009

We Will Rock You, the Queen and Ben Elton musical, settled in to a three week run last night, at the Sunderland Empire, with an opening night that will take some beating.

At the curtain call, with the audience already on their feet, none other than legend Brian May, guitar in hand, stepped forward to join the cast.

Following this, author and director, Ben Elton, came on stage and made a passionate speech about the importance of live theatre.

The show runs in Sunderland until June 27, but May and Elton were there for one night only. It could be a long time before we see such an opening night again in the North East, it was truly magical experience.

Live entertainment in Sunderland has been buzzing this week as within the past few days the City has seen Take That start their tour, Oasis perform and now Brian May open We Will Rock You, at the Empire

Our review of We Will Rock You will be posted later today.
