Nominations for Barclays Awards Open

Date: 24 September 1997

The nominations for Barclays Theatre Awards 1997 have been announced. The awards, presented by the Theatrical Management Association, are the only UK-wide awards for excellence in theatre. This year's nominations include the internationally famous (Ralph Fiennes for Best Actor), current West End hits (Ben Elton's Popcorn ) and innovative new productions for young people (Beauty and the Beast at the Young Vic and Glyndebourne Productions' Misper). This is the first year of Barclays' three year sponsorship of the awards, formerly known as the British Regional Theatre Awards. Two new categories have been added for Outstanding Achievement in Opera and Dance.
