Marti Pellow plays Che in new tour of Evita

Date: 1 March 2013

Marti Pellow is set to play Che in a major new tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1978 musical Evita.

Produced by Bill Kenwright by arrangement with the Really Useful Group, the production will play six performances at the New Wimbledon Theatre from 13 May 2013, prior to a national and international tour.

Telling the story of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, Evita follows Eva's journey from humble beginnings through to extraordinary wealth, power and iconic status which ultimately lead her to be heralded as the 'spiritual leader of the nation' by the Argentine people.

The score includes "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "Oh What a Circus", "On This Night of a Thousand Stars", "You Must Love Me" and "Another Suitcase in Another Hall".

Marti Pellow plays Che, the narrator and protagonist who "reflects the voice of the Argentine people"; linked to Eva by destiny he brings conflict to the story of Eva's rise to fame.

Since rising to fame as the lead singer of chart-toppers Wet Wet Wet, Pellow has starred in productions of The Witches of Eastwick, Chess, Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago, Blood Brothers and The War of the Worlds.

He joins the cast of Evita fresh from a solo tour to launch his brand new solo album Hope, released later this month.

Writing on his Facebook page recently, Pellow said: "I'm delighted to announce that I will be playing the wonderful part of Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's classic musical, Evita. Having worked with Tim Rice before it's a great honour to be performing his songs again and I can't wait to start rehearsing and getting on the road."

After Wimbledon, Evita will visit Milton Keynes Theatre (20 May-1 June), King's Theatre, Glasgow (3-15 June), Empire Theatre, Liverpool (24-29 June), Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield (1-13 July), Theatre Royal, Norwich (15-27 July), The Lowry, Salford (29 July-10 August), Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton (19-31 August), Grand Opera House, Belfast (2-14 September), Hall For Cornwall, Truro (16-28 September), Grand Theatre, Swansea (30 September-5 October), Bristol Hippodrome (7-12 October) and Mayflower Southampton (14-19 October).

Further casting is still to be announced.
