One Man, Two Guvnors arrives in Leeds for only Yorkshire run

One Man, Two Guvnors arrives in Leeds for only Yorkshire run

Date: 7 December 2012

Fresh from its critically acclaimed success at the National Theatre in Haymarket and a successful run on Broadway starring James Corden, Director Nicholas Hytner’s award-winning production is now touring with comedian Rufus Hound in the lead role of Francis Henshall.

Based on Carlo Goldoni’s classic Italian comedy The Servant of Two Masters, Richard Bean’s adaptation also features songs by Grant Olding.

Leading man Rufus Hound, a household name through shows such as Celebrity Juice and 8 out of 10 Cats, feels he has big shoes to fill in replacing Corden: “I’d seen the play with James Corden in it and thought ‘what a great job for a stand-up’. I never imagined for a moment that I would get that job.”

Featuring live skiffle band The Craze, tells the story of Francis Henshall, who is fired from the skiffle band and takes two consecutive jobs at the Cricketers’ Arms as a minder to Stanley Stubbers and Roscoe Crabbe. Henshall has to keep both guvnors apart, as Crabbe is actually his sister Rachel posing as her dead brother, as Stubbers killed the real Roscoe Crabbe. Rachel is also Stubbers’ boyfriend, which promises for plenty of slapstick comedy, confusion and panic.

Hound promises a night of hilarity and enjoyment for one and all: “This show hits your funny bone from all sides. You want a funny dance routine? Here’s one of those. You want someone doing a bit of xylophone or a funny song? There’s a bit of that. We do physical falls, we do word play, we do pun runs; the show and the cast is about going on and just exploding fun into the audience.”

Fresh from success in Leicester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Belfast, Blackpool and Norwich, the production makes a flying visit to Leeds before continuing onto Llandudno, Cardiff, Salford and Nottingham.

One Man Two Guvnors is at Leeds Grand Theatre from 11 – 16 December. For more information and tickets contact the Box Office on 0844 848 2700 or online at www.leedsgrandtheatre.com
