Whatsonstage.com Awards 2013: Have your say on the year in opera

Date: 7 December 2012

After the phenomenal success of last year's first-ever Opera Poll on Whatsonstage.com when in excess of 1000 of you voted, I'm delighted to announce that it’s back and will now become a regular fixture on the site.

Once again myself and my colleagues Mark Valencia and Simon Thomas have deliberated over the shortlist, but one thing that we all agreed on was that the last year was not a vintage one for opera in the capital.

Very few new productions managed to warrant the full five-stars, and there were some major disappointments from both London Houses, which it’s probably best to draw a veil over.

We hope that you agree that our list reflects the highs of the last twelve months, so all that it remains for me to say is ‘get voting’ – and please forward the link below to everyone you know, and encourage them to vote as well. The results will be out in the New Year.

The choices seem very southern centric, I'm sure that other opera companies such as Welsh National and Opera North are worth a mention - how about "Best Contribution to Opera outside London" - Bill Willard

Tried to vote on your opera awards but only questions 1 and 4 had entries I'd seen, and the site wouldnt accept a vote for 1 and 4 only...what about a dont know category? Especially useful for those many of us who dont live in London so get to opera there patchily. Opera North exists too, you know... - susan burdell
