Priscilla Heads for Liverpool, 20 May

The hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert - which recently played at the Manchester Opera House returns to the Northwest (Liverpool) later this month. The show, which had closed last year after running in the West End since March 2009, is adapted from the Oscar-winning film Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and chronicles the adventures of Sydney drag queen Mitzi (aka Tick) and her two fish-out-of-water friends, Felicia and transsexual Bernadette, who head west across the desert to Alice Springs in their battered old bus.

The touring performers include original West End star Jason Donovan as Tick and Richard Grieve as Bernadette. Grieve played Tick in the West End during the final months of the show in London. Donovan will not be performing in the Liverpool dates.

Priscilla had its world premiere in Sydney in October 2006 and subsequently toured to Melbourne and New Zealand. After a return Sydney season, a run Toronto, the show also appeared on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for Best Costume Design.

For the stage version, members of the original film’s creative team – writer and director Stephan Elliott, costume designers Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel, make-up designer Cassie Hanlon and producer Michael Hamlyn – are joined by theatre director Simon Phillips.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert is at the Liverpool Empire from 20 - 25 May.
