Faye Tozer stars in Tailor-Made new musical at Arts Theatre

Date: 13 November 2012

New musical The Tailor-Made Man, about gay silent screen star William Haines, will receive its world premiere at the Arts Theatre next year.

Starring Dylan Turner as Haines and Steps' Faye Tozer as film star Marion Davies, the show will opens on 21 February 2013 (previews from 13 February) for an eight-week season to 6 April.

Billed as "a powerful story about Hollywood and its system and hypocrisy", The Tailor-Made Man tells the story of William "Billy" Haines, who was one of MGM's biggest stars in the 1920s but was fired when he refused to deny his homosexuality. His defiance led to his second and even more successful career as an interior designer to the stars, and a lifelong relationship with his former stand-in Jimmy Shields.

The Tailor-Made Man was originally written as a play by Claudio Macor, who wrote the book for and will direct the musical premiere. The "musical adaptation" is by Amy Rosenthal, with music by Duncan Walsh Atkins and Adam Meggido (Showstoppers!) and lyrics by Meggido.

Faye Tozer is a member of Brit award-winning pop group Steps, who have recently reformed. After Steps originally split up in 2001, Tozer made her musical theatre debut in the tour of Tell Me on a Sunday. Subsequent theatre tours have included Love Shack, Me and My Girl, Dial M for Murder and Over the Rainbow. She also starred in the ill-fated Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens at The Venue (now the Leicester Square Theatre) in 2005.

Dylan Turner's West End theatre includes Chariots of Fire, Rock of Ages, Life is a Dream, Mamma Mia! and Grease, as well as the UK tours of Chicago and Footloose.

The Tailor-Made Man will choreographed by Nathan M Wright, with design by Sophia Simensky, lighting by Humphrey McDermott, sound by Tom Marshall and musical direction by Duncan Walsh Atkins. It's produced in London by Stephen McGill.
