Digital Theatre releases 2010 Globe productions for download

Date: 7 November 2012

Whatsonstage.com Awards sponsor Digital Theatre has announced a new partnership with Shakespeare's Globe, which will see it release four productions from the Globe's 2010 season to view online.

From today, users will be able to stream or download recordings of The Merry Wives of Windsor, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry VIII as part of the new Digital Theatre Collections series.

Digital Theatre's co-founder and CEO Robert Delamere told Whatsonstage.com: "We've always believed Digital Theatre had an opportunity to be a destination site for theatre and culture. The launch of Digital Theatre Collections gives our audience access to the cream of British performing arts and culture."

Shakespeare's Globe has been filming its theatre productions since 2009 as part of its Globe On Screen initiative. Its 2010 productions were broadcast to over 50 cinemas across the UK and 275 screens.

The Globe's chief executive Neil Constable said the venue is "delighted" to be working with Digital Theatre Collections. "For the first time, future generations of audiences can continue to enjoy our past performances through the Digital Theatre player streaming the films directly to their home as if they were watching them in our world famous theatre on Bankside."

Artistic director Dominic Dromgoole's productions of Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 features an Olivier Award-winning performance from Roger Allam as Falstaff alongside Jamie Parker as Prince Hal. The rare revival of Henry VIII features Dominic Rowan, Miranda Raison and Anthony Howell, and The Merry Wives of Windsor is Christopher Luscombe's restaging of the acclaimed 2008 production.

Digital Theatre co-founder and executive producer Tom Shaw said: "We are keen to host content from across the performing arts and will be making further partnership announcements in the coming weeks and months."
