Opening: Young & Ryan in Cabaret, NT's Damned by Despair & Idina Menzel

Among this week's major London theatre openings, in the West End and further afield, are Cabaret starring Will Young & Michelle Ryan, Damned by Despair at the National, Idina Menzel's London concerts, and more:

Eugene O'Neill's 1924 play reworks the Greek tragedy of Phaedra to the unsettling scenery of rural New England. It runs at the Lyric Hammersmith until 10 November.


Swan Lake
8 October 2012

With instantly recognizable music and a timeless story of good against evil, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is one of the most famous ballets. Anthony Dowell's production draws upon the opulent style of 1890s Russia. It runs at the Royal Opera House until 24 November.

Cabaret

Kander & Ebb's classic musical, based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood, stars Will Young and Michelle Ryan. It runs at the Savoy Theatre until 19 January 2013. Take a look at our show pics here.

Broadway star Idina Menzel brings her solo concert to the UK. Featuring a mixture of musical theatre, classic songs and originals, Menzel plays at the Apollo Theatre until 14 October. Read our interview with Menzel here, and why not come on our Outing?

Damned by Despair

Taking unexpected turns as it follows the intertwined fates of two strangers, this story by Spanish dramatist Tirso di Molina is brought to vivid life in Frank McGuinness' new version. It runs at the NT Olivier until 17 December.

I Heart Peterborough

Joel Horwood's play, which centres on a father and son, both brought up in Peterborough, comes to the Soho Theatre after a run at the Edinburgh Fringe. It runs until 20 October.

You Can Still Make a Killing

Award-winning playwright Alecky Blythe returns to the stage in the world premiere of Nicholas Pierpan's new play, which is directed by Matthew Dunster. It runs at Southwark Playhouse until 3 November.


Tape
12 October 2012
(Previews from 10 October)

A high stakes and suspenseful exploration of memory, truth and perception, Tape comes to London for its first West End run, ten years on from its New York premiere. Starring Marc Elliott, it runs at the Trafalgar Studios until 10 November.
