Nominations announced for 2012 Theatre Awards UKDate: 27 September 2012The Theatrical Management Association (TMA) has announced the nominations for its Theatre Awards UK 2012 - formerly known as the TMAs. The Theatre Awards UK are the only awards which specifically address theatre throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as opposed to focusing on London and the West End. This year the Awards become the latest to follow Whatsonstage.com's lead by including a first public vote, for the Best Touring Production category. The vote will be launched shortly by media partner The Stage. Last year's winners included Derek Jacobi (Best Performance in a Play for King Lear), Michael Sheen and Bill Mitchell (Best Director for The Passion) and Matilda's Bertie Carvel (Best Performance in a Musical). Peter Hall also received a lifetime achievement award. This year's nominees include Sweeney Todd co-stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, who will go head-to-head in the Best Performance in a Musical category. Jonathan Kent's Chichester Festival Theatre production is also nominated for Best Musical, alongside Company and The Go-Between. The Theatre Awards UK 2012 will be presented at a lunchtime ceremony on Sunday 28 October 2012 at the Guildhall.
