Kitson, Ronnie & Mies Julie among second round of Fringe Firsts

The second round of Fringe First Awards have been announced by The Scotsman. Six shows have been honoured this week, bringing the total so far this year to 11.

The Traverse claimed two of the latest awards, for Daniel Kitson’s story show As of 1.52pm GMT on Friday April 27th 2012, This Show Has No Title and Theatre Uncut, an early morning series of script-in-hand performances featuring writers including Neil LaBute and David Greig.

Kitson, who won the Perrier Comedy Award in 2002, adds to his impressive haul of Fringe Firsts for previous story shows including Stories For The Wobbly-Hearted, C-90, 66a Church Road and The Interminable Suicide Of Gregory Church.

Other winners this week include Baxter Theatre Centre and South African State Theatre’s acclaimed Strindberg adaptation Mies Julie at Assembly Hall, and HighTide’s Educating Ronnie, in which Joe Douglas recalls the true story of his sponsorship of a Ugandan boy, at Assembly George Square .

The final two awards went to Richard Marsh and Katie Bonna’s Dirty Great Love Story, a true tale told through rhyme, at Pleasance Dome, and Jennifer Tremblay’s The List, about a woman struggling to adjust to rural life in Québec, at Summerhall.

The winners received their awards from actor Claire Sweeney at a ceremony in Assembly George Square.

The final set of Scotsman Fringe First awards, which were established 39 years ago to encourage new writing to come to the Fringe, will be announced on Thursday 23 August 2012.
