Stephen Campbell Moore & Dominic Rowan join Duff in Donmar Berenice

Date: 15 August 2012

Full casting has been announced for Josie Rourke’s forthcoming revival of Racine's Berenice at the Donmar Warehouse.

As previously announced, the title role will be played by  Anne-Marie Duff, who last appeared at the Donmar in Days of Wine and Roses in 2005.

Berenice will play at the Donmar from 2 October to 24 November 2012 (previews from 27 September), directed by Josie Rourke using Man Booker Prize winner Alan Hollinghurst’s new adaptation.

The play recounts the tragic love story of the Roman emperor Titus and Berenice of Cilicia. Unable to rectify his duty as emperor with his love for a foreign queen, Titus is forced to choose between love and responsibility. Meanwhile Antiochus, Titus’ best friend, is sent to comfort her, but reveals his own unrequited love for Berenice.

Duff will be joined in the principal cast by Stephen Campbell Moore (Clybourne Park, All My Sons, The History Boys) as Titus and Dominic Rowan (recently seen in the Young Vic’s acclaimed production A Doll’s House) as Anthiochus.

The cast also features: Nigel Cooke (Paulinus), Kurt Egyiawan (Arsace), Derek Howard (Rutilus) and Rosie Jones (Phenice).

Berenice is designed by Lucy Osborne, with lighting by Oliver Fenwick, sound by Emma Laxton and composition by Michael Bruce.

Currently at the Donmar, Lyndsey Turner’s revival of Brian Friel’s Philadelphia, Here I Come! continues until 22 September.
