Opening Wednesday Richard III 25 July 2012 (Previews from 14 July) Olivier Award-winner Mark Rylance returns to Shakespeare's Globe for the first time since stepping down as artistic director in 2005 to play the title role in Richard III, which continues in rep until 13 October.

Elliot Davis and Busted star James Bourne reunite to present a new "out of this world" musical. Featuring a national of 40 YMT members aged 11-21, it runs at Riverside Studios until 28 July. Opening Friday Olympics Opening Ceremony 27 July 2012 Danny Boyle directs the £27million opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The 3-hour spectacular is thought to include evocations of the English countryside, Shakespeare readings by Kenneth Branagh and a show-closing set from Paul McCartney.
