Book of Mormon confirms West End transfer, opens at Prince of Wales 25 Feb

Date: 8 June 2012

Broadway smash hit musical The Book of Mormon, created by South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q's Robert Lopez, will transfer to the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre from 25 February 2013.

The long-rumoured transfer was confirmed today by the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye. Tickets will go on sale 13 September, with press night planned for 'around' 23 March.

The Tony Award-winning show centres on two young Mormon missionaries dispatched to convert an African village and satirises everything from religion to The Lion King.

The Book of Mormon opened at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre on 24 March 2011 (previews from 24 February) and remains one of New York's hardest to get tickets.

It was announced last October that the Prince of Wales’ current tenant, long-runner Mamma Mia!, will play its final performance there on 1 September 2012. The musical, penned by former ABBA members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, will reopen at the Novello Theatre on 6 September.

Filling the gap at the Prince of Wales will be new Beatles musical Let it Be which, as previously announced, will run from 24 September to 19 January (previews from 14 September).

The Book of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. It's choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, who co-directs with Parker. The show won nine Tony Awards last year, including Best Musical, and will open this year's Tony Awards ceremony on Sunday.

The Book of Mormon will be produced in the West End by Anne Garefino, Scott Rudin and Sonia Friedman Productions.
