Cast: Globe's Taming of the Shrew & Henry V

Date: 16 May 2012

Full casting has been announced for the Globe's forthcoming production of The Taming of the Shrew, which opens on 23 June.

As previously announced, Olivier Award-winner Samantha Spiro will play Katherine, the eponymous shrew, with Simon Paisley Day as Petruchio. Day's recent credits include playing Malvolio in Twelfth Night in 2011, while Spiro was seen most recently in the title role of Filumena at the Almeida, which closed last weekend.

Joining them in the Toby Frow-directed production are a number of familiar Globe faces, including Michael Bertenshaw as Gremio, Joseph Timms as Lucentio, Pearce Quigley as Grumio,  and Helen Weir as the Widow. Sarah MacRae and Pip Donaghy are both making their debuts at the Globe in the roles of Bianca and Baptista Minola respectively. Also appearing will be Tom Anderson, David Beames, Jamie Beamish, Patrick Driver, Tom Godwin, Christopher Keegan and Rick Warden.

The theatre also announced full casting for Henry V, the final production of the Globe to Globe festival and the launch of 2012 Theatre Season. It previews from 7 June.

Joining History Boys star Jamie Parker in the title role will be Globe regulars David Hargreaves as the King of France, Nigel Cooke as Exeter, Sam Cox as Pistol and Paul Rider as Bardolph. Brid Brennan – seen last year at the National Theatre in The Veil – plays Queen Isabel.

The cast also includes Graham Butler, Giles Cooper, Matthew Flynn, Beruce Khan, James Lailey, [Brendan O’Hea], Olivia Ross, Chris Starkie, Lisa Stevenson and Roger Watkins.

Dominic Dromgoole directs.
