Could be good … The Humble Quest for Universal Genius

Date: 2 May 2012

The first show to hit the “Could be good”… spotlight comes with a two year history of success and aims, once again, to crown the comedy world’s top cleverclogs.

The Humble Quest for Universal Genius is the cult comedy quiz show that is taking the UK comedy circuit by storm. From humble beginnings as a three-date experimental run at Komedia back in 2010, the show has gone from strength to strength until now, as well as regular monthly residencies both at Komedia, Brighton and Leicester Square Theatre, London, it has been invited back to perform at Latitude and Green Man festivals following the runaway success of last year’s festival appearances (in which a table was broken, a child cried and a 700-strong audience ended up winning!).

The show has already attracted some of biggest names in stand up, with previous contestants including the likes of Seann Walsh, Isy Suttie, Rufus Hound, Holly Walsh, Paul Sinha, and Marek Larwood, with other big-name comedians queuing up to test their mettle in future shows.

The May quest for universal genius is particularly hotly anticipated, as it sees wildly inventive comic Tom Bell competing against young upstart, and Chortle Comedy Award winner, Adam Hess. To decide who will be anointed with the coveted Universal Genius mortarboard, the comedians will battle it out in rounds such as art, maths, languages, etiquette, poetry, wit, literature, inventing and hunting. Yes, hunting.

Hosted by award-winning comedian Mark Allen (“A total delight” Time Out) and aided by his “glamorous” assistant Eli Silverman, the contestants will compete to see if they have what it takes to be considered a true Universal Genius – someone who excels in every single facet of human understanding. Once the dust has settled and the medals have been awarded, only one will be left standing. But who will it be? Be there to witness the brain-wreck!

The Humble Quest for Universal Genius takes place on Saturday 5 May, 7:00pm at the Komedia, Brighton
